My Methodology
DBT focuses on four core skillsets: Mindfulness, Distress Tolerance, Emotion Regulation and Interpersonal Skills. Each core component has its own set of cognitive or behavioral techniques that can be applied.
What I like about DBT is how it teaches us to reflect on our thoughts, emotions and behaviors and decide whether we need to accept or change them. Acceptance is a key component of DBT that I find helpful with most clients. In addition to acceptance, DBT incorporates a variety of other practical skills such as mindfulness, grounding techniques, self-soothing techniques, and problem-solving techniques that can be applied in wide variety of situations.
